Our Mission Statement

At its heart, Turning SouthEast promotes the advancement of the intellectual traditions of the Sunni Islamic faith in the form of higher academic research.

In doing so it seeks not only to build upon these traditions in and of themselves, but also to bring the fruit of their knowledge into conversation with the circumstances of modernity.

Beginning as a small community effort over ten years ago, the organisation has always aimed to provide funding to committed students of knowledge looking to further their study and research at the higher level.

Since its inception it has grown from offering one-off maintenance allowances to offering full tuition fee grants, on top of regular maintenance stipends. We have funded individuals pursuing Master’s programmes, PhD research courses, and more.

To date it has distributed over a quarter of a million pounds. Having recognised the need to continue this effort on a larger scale, the foundation acquired registered charity status in 2023 and seeks to expand its grant giving capacity.

Our aim is to eliminate the obstacle of funding for any individual looking to perform exceptional research and study in this field.
